Carney sits where Harford Road leaves the Beltway and turns into a long hill of ranchers, Cape Cods and split-levels. It is an unincorporated part of Baltimore County of about 29,000 residents, wedged between Parkville and Perry Hall, and most of the moves we do here are single-family houses that have collected two or three decades of belongings. The county seat is Towson, a short run west on Joppa Road.
Local moving rates in Carney
Our local moving rate is $185 per hour with a four-hour minimum. That covers the truck, the crew, protective wrap, dollies and straps, and the drive between your two addresses. Flat-rate quotes are available for long-distance moves and single-item jobs.
The four-hour minimum is not a sales tactic. It is close to what a real move takes once you count the walk from the truck to the door, the wrap-and-pad time at the front end, and the reassembly at the other end. What moves the number up or down is access — stairs, parking distance, elevator waits — far more than square footage. Send us both addresses and we will give you a real figure.
What we handle in Carney
Because so much of Carney is owner-occupied houses with basements and garages, the jobs we see most are full household moves, downsizing after the kids leave, and the cleanouts that come with either.
- Local moves and apartment moves
- Senior moves and downsizing into apartments and care communities
- Cleanouts, haul-away and junk removal after the move or instead of one
- Single-item delivery — a sofa, a safe, a piano, a treadmill
- Load-only or unload-only crews if you have your own truck or pod
- Turnover work for landlords: removing what the last tenant left and setting up the next
- Long-distance moves by flat rate
What we plan for in Carney
Harford Road and the I-695 exit
Harford Road (MD-147) is the spine of Carney and the Beltway exit 31 interchange at Harford Road is the pinch point. Morning and late-afternoon traffic backs up between the Beltway and Joppa Road, and on an hourly move that loaded drive leg counts. For a move inside Carney or over to Parkville we avoid the highway entirely and run Joppa Road, Old Harford Road or Satyr Hill Road instead.
Hillside lots and walk-out basements
A lot of the streets off Old Harford Road and Summit Avenue drop away from the road, so the house that looks like a rancher from the front has a full walk-out basement at the back. That is where the freezer, the workbench and the extra bedroom set live. Tell us at booking whether the basement has an outside door; it often changes where we park the truck and how we route the heavy pieces.
Split-level stairs
The split-levels and bi-levels that dominate the 1960s subdivisions here have short, sharp flights with a landing turn. King box springs and wide dressers have to be angled through them, which is slow, careful work. It is not a problem, but it is time, so we would rather know about the large pieces before the crew arrives.
Cromwell Valley and Loch Raven
The north end of Carney runs up to Cromwell Valley Park and the Loch Raven watershed, where the roads narrow, lots get bigger and driveways get longer. A full-size truck fits most of them, but a few of the gravel lanes off Cromwell Bridge Road call for a smaller vehicle and a shuttle.
